What Berlin's top 3 parties want from AI

Surprise: ALL Berlin parties are pro-AI. But each of them has its own conditions

Let's talk about the winners of recent Berlin elections. I have checked all their party programs for one thing: AI.

What Berlin's parties promised on AI. Table: seven Berlin parties against four topics, from open-source AI and software to money for the AI industry

1. Grüne (pro-eco)

They are in the top 4 parties in parliament and they prefer1:

  • non-American AI from Germany or at least Europe,
  • Open Source AI.

This means support for projects like:

  • Mistral from France
  • Black Forest Labs from Germany,
  • Open Source models like Stable Diffusion, which was created at a Munich university.

2. Die Linke (leftists)

They came first in Berlin and they want2:

  • AI to be transparent and controllable
  • Do not want Berlin police to use Palantir

(Palantir is the American AI surveillance software of Trump ally Peter Thiel, which the Trump administration uses to collect data on migrants34).

3. CDU (center-right)

They came second in Berlin, and they want5:

  • to use AI to cut bureaucracy, most of all in social housing,
  • but it also says directly that it wants more police video surveillance with AI.

4. AfD (far-right)

Came third in Berlin. They want6:

  • full video surveillance in every "hotspot" area of the city,
  • in the same list of security demands it asks for AI "if needed".

5. SPD (center-left)

They came fifth in Berlin and they want7:

  • to use AI to speed up permits for building houses,
  • to make Berlin the number 1 place for AI and DeepTech in Europe,
  • no Palantir for Berlin police.
